Over this past weekend, Ada Regional United Way and the Pontotoc Co Health Department teamed up to provide a splashing good time for residents at the Glenwood Splashpad and park on Saturday, July 23, 2022, from 2:00-4:00 pm. “We had planned for 300 attendants and didn’t know what to expect considering the circumstances of recent years and the surging heat. We were excited to see so many attending our free event in which we surpassed the 300 in attendance,” says Executive Director of Ada Regional United Way, Oriana McElwee. “Booths were set up by several of our partners and affiliates for people to learn about.”
The event offered participants a hot dog, drink, and a bag of chips, activities at each booth, a chance to win pool pass gift cards, the opportunity to play in the imagination playground, and access to several Health Department Services. “The community was eager to get out and with the added hardship of our current economy, we were proud to serve families in any way that we could,” says McEwlee, “That included our hot dog sponsor, First United Bank, going out and buying a couple hundred more hotdogs and buns to make sure we could feed as many as we could. The Pontotoc Co Health Department was able to provide 4 car seat installations and schedule appointments as well as have their mobile clinic complete 6 physicals. We couldn’t have made this possible without our partners and the sponsors who made this event successful,” she concludes.
A big splash goes to the event sponsors:
First United Bank for grilling the hotdogs and providing the hot dogs and buns for 500 plus people
Crosspointe Church of Ada for providing 10 $25.00 and 24 $10.00 pool gift cards for prizes
People’s Electric Cooperative for providing 13 cases of water
Pontotoc Co Drug-Free Coalition, Addiction & Behavioral Health, and Citizens Bank of Ada for providing 185 backpacks
Yello Sno for providing at least 240 free snow cones during the event
Walmart of Ada for providing 250 individual-size bags of chips
